THIS WORLD RHINO DAY

WWF's Black Rhino Range Expansion Project (BRREP) is opening the book on five rhinos who've found new homes through their conservation efforts.

Meet three of them below โ€“ and unlock the rest by joining our community.

Tower - The Dancer

TOWER:

THE DANCER

Tower is a feisty rhino who likes to do a little dance in front of vehicles.

His name describes this black rhino's stature perfectly and yet he has a more light-hearted side to him. Black rhinos are naturally curious and often come to investigate other animals, vehicles or people.

Tower is known for doing a bit of a bouncy dance on approach to vehicles, before running off.

MBUZANE:

ORPHAN CALF

Mbuzane arriving at the bomas as a calf after his mother died of old age.

Orphaned as a six-month-old, when his mother died of old age at nearly 40 years old, Mbuzane grew up with three โ€œsiblingsโ€ at the Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife game capture bomas. He was released into the wild as a five-year-old in 2022. To see orphans like Mbuzane thrive in the wild is very special and a huge accomplishment.

6toe:

MUSICAL INSPIRATION

6toe (Sixto) with her calf 7toe.

6toe was named after Sixto Rodriguez, the American singer-songwriter who became famous in South Africa in the 1970s and 1980s. When 6toe gave birth to two calves after being translocated to her new home, they became known as 7toe and 8toe!

Every Rhino has a story - And so do we

Every rhino has a story

โ€“ and so do we

Behind every rhino story is a team of people who've dedicated their lives to keeping this species safe. Since 2003, WWF's Black Rhino Range Expansion Project has established 17 new populations, moved 270 rhinos, and celebrated more than 200 calves born in the wild.

You can be part of their story too.

๐Ÿ’š Symbolically adopt a black rhino today and help protect their future.
